Purple Knights advance in LHSAA baseball playoffs for first time in St. Aug history
The day started under the beaming sun with baseball fans gathering in the stands at Kirsch Rooney Park to watch the great American pastime. Just as the sun went down, dozens of St. Augustine faithful fans and players alike burst into happiness, jumping with joy as the Purple Knights made school history.
For the first time in St. Augustine’s existence, the school advanced to the LHSAA baseball playoffs after winning game one, 21-1, and game three, 9-5, against Archbishop Rummel on Friday evening. St. Augustine head coach Al Robinson said that he had high hopes for his 20-17 team all year. “Work hard, that was the message all year,” Robinson said. “I’m very proud of the way this team, from beginning to end, put in the hard work.”
The game three win came just after the Purple Knights fell to Rummel in game two, 10-0, forcing the third and deciding match up.
St. Augustine now advances to face second seed Catholic of Baton Rouge in the third round of the Divison I playoffs in Baton Rouge on Thursday and Friday.
