1st Annual Car Raffle Sells Out!
St. Augustine High School officials drew the winning ticket from the first annual St. Augustine, Purple Knight Car Raffle on Thursday evening. The 2017 car raffle sold out of its limited number of tickets to win a brand new 2017 Toyota Camry.
The winner of the Brand New 2017 Toyota Camry is Mrs. Dorita James of Kenner, ticket number 2800.
A proud long-time supporter of St. Augustine, Mrs. James is the mother of Dr. Jerald James, Sr. '89 and Karnell James '93. She is also the grandmother of 2016 salutatorian, Jerald James, Jr. “St. Augustine has been an important part of my life and my family's for many years. We are proud to support and be a part of the St. Augustine community and all it represents,” Mrs. James said.
The school announced the results at halftime during the St. Aug, Holy Cross football game at Tad Gormley Stadium. The raffle brought in $100,000 for student organizations and scholarships.
Kenneth A. St. Charles, Ph.D., '81 St. Augustine President and CEO said. “We wouldn’t have met our goal without the support of our parents, students, alumni, and volunteers who worked hard to sell all of the raffle tickets. And, we wouldn’t have been able to offer such a fantastic raffle prize without the generosity and support of Anthony Legeaux '85 and Toyota of New Orleans.”
A total of 5,000 tickets were included in the drawing. Tickets were sold from Friday, September 1, through Thursday, October 26. Tickets were $25 each or 5 tickets for $100.
St. Augustine extends a very special thank you to our students, parents, alumni, friends, and everyone who supported our 2017 car raffle. "Your support of St. Augustine directly benefits hundreds of Purple Knights every day, enabling them to experience an excellent education, gain leadership skills while offering them an opportunity to make a difference in the community," St. Charles added.
