St. Augustine High School celebrates homecoming with Honors Gala and inducts 6 into Hall of Fame

  • St. Augustine High School’s annual Honors and Hall of Fame Gala was held on Friday, November 2, at Champions Square club XLIV. Fr. Wilbur Atwood SSJ, Leonard Augustine ’55, Paul Beaulieu ’61, Fr. Howard Byrd SSJ, Eddie Flint, and Fr. Robert Grant SSJ, were inducted into the St. Augustine High School Hall of Fame

The event also honored individuals and organizations that are impacting St. Augustine both past and present. This year’s honorees are Drago’s Seafood Restaurant and the Cvitanovich Family Foundation and Mission and Ministry Incorporated and the Daughters of Charity Province of St. Louise.

More than 400 alumni and friends attended the event. "This year marks our 2nd Annual St. Augustine Honors Celebration,” St. Augustine President and CEO, Dr. Kenneth St. Charles said. "We are delighted to celebrate our deserving inductees and honorees who are true heroes of St. Augustine. Those inducted into the Hall of Fame will forever be acknowledged as innovators and the architects of our proud and historic tradition.”

The highlight of the evening was the alumni reunion class gift announcements. As part of the annual gathering, each class begins a fundraising drive ahead of the reunion, with alumni working together to bolster support for the next generation of Purple Knights. Alumni reunion classes ending in 3 and 8 presented class gifts of more than $220,000. The class of 1968 led the charge in most dollars raised with more than $94,000. “We are grateful to our generous alumni who return to celebrate their special reunion and for the generous gifts that they provide in support of our students,” St. Charles said.

In addition to the fundraising efforts, St. Augustine honored well-deserving individuals and groups through an annual induction ceremony into the St. Augustine Hall of Fame during homecoming week festivities. Individuals who have played a significant and vital role in establishing St. Augustine’s legacy or through their life’s work are eligible for inclusion in the St. Augustine Hall of Fame. Nominees must exemplify the qualities of a loyal and dedicated Purple Knight.
