The Christian Scripture/Social Justice continues scripture study with an examination of the nature, content, structure, and themes of the Christian scriptures. The historical and cultural background of scripture will be examined, with a particular focus on the Christian scriptures as a book of faith. Emphasis is placed on ascertaining the background of the audience and the author, along with form, source, and redaction criticism of the texts from the Christian scriptures to help students gain a better understanding of how to apply their message today. The second semester explores the issues of social justice through an in-depth discussion of Christian morality and an application of these concepts through service to the community. This area will challenge the student to accept Christianity and apply its tenets to his life, society, and the world.
